ARCHANGEL RAPHAEL

 

One of the most important miracles of Saint Raphael is commemorated on the third day of Pagumen. The miracle is related to a Church dedicated to the archangel and is said to have been constructed on an island outside the city of Alexandria in Egypt. It is said that the church was threatened to be demolished by a whale and started shaking whilst the believers were praying inside the church. It was later saved miraculously by the Archangel Raphael.

The story described in the Book of Tobit, an Old Testament scripture, states that Saint Raphael was revealed to a man named Tobia who had a blind father called Tobit. The archangel instructed Tobia to fish in the River of Tigris and the heart and liver of a fish is said to have been served to Tobit, and that cured his eyes. According to the same story, a woman named Sarah (not the wife of Abraham) was married to seven husbands one after another, but all died on the first night of the marriage.

Saint Raphael intervened and told Tobia to marry Sarah. He miraculously exorcised the evil spirit and Tobia was spared the fate of Sarah’s previous husbands. St. Raphael is also believed to have been empowered by God to intervene for fruitful marriage, fertility and to reduce the labor during childbirth. He is also said to have performed a number of miracles on this day (Pagumen

3). that’s why the day is celebrated with special vivacity in the churches dedicated to the Archangel.

Pagumen 3 is also called Rehiwe Semay2 literally meaning ‘The opening of heaven’. It is believed that on this day the prayers of believers reach before God in a special manner, and hence the term Rehiwe Semay. The rain that falls on this day is also considered Holy; it is believed that it blesses Christians and protects them from infirmity and bad fortune. On this day, we see children rinsing in the rain to receive blessing. Women add drops of the sacred rainwater to their dough to have their Injera and bread blessed.

በኢትዮጵያ ኦርቶዶክስ ተዋሕዶ ቤተ ክርስቲያን ወርኀ ጳጕሜን የዓለም ፍጻሜ መታሰቢያ ተደርጋ ትታሰባለች፡፡ በዚህ የተነሣ ምእመናን በጾምና በጸሎት (በሱባዔ) ያሳልፏታል፡፡ በተለይም በቅዱስ ሩፋኤል ዕለት ሰማያት የሚከፈቱበት (ርኅዎተ ሰማይ) መኾኑን በማመን ምእመናን ጸሎታቸውን ከምንጊዜውም በበለጠ ያቀርባሉ፡፡ ወደ ወንዞች በመሔድና በሚዘንበው ዝናብ ይጠመቃሉ፡፡ ወርኀ ጳጕሜን የጌታችን ምጽአት የሚታሰብባት በመኾኗ የሚዘመረው መዝሙር፣ የሚነበቡ ምንባባትና ቅዱስ ወንጌሉ እንደዚሁም የሚሰበከው ምስባክ ይህንኑ ምሥጢር የሚያሳዩ ናቸው፡፡

በወርኀ ጳጉሜን ከሚታሰቡ እና ከሚከበሩ በዓላት መካከል በየዓመቱ ጳጕሜን ፫ ቀን የሊቀ መላእክት የቅዱስ ሩፋኤል ዓመታዊ ክብረ በዓል በመላው የኢትዮጵያ ኦርቶዶክስ ተዋሕዶ አብያተ ክርስቲያናት በልዩ ልዩ መንፈሳዊ ሥነ ሥርዓት ይከበራል፡፡ የቅዱስ ሩፋኤል በዓሉ የሚከበርባቸው ምክንያቶችም ሁለት ናቸው፤ እነርሱም አንደኛው በዓለ ሢመቱን ምክንያት በማድረግ ሲኾን፣ ሁለተኛው ደግሞ ቅዳሴ ቤቱ ነው፡፡ ‹ሩፋኤል› የሚለው የስሙ ትርጓሜ ‹ደስ የሚያሰኝ፣ ቸር፣ መሐሪ፣ ቅን የዋህ› ማለት ነው፡፡ ሊቀ መላእክት ቅዱስ ሩፋኤል ያለ ማቋረጥ ፈጣሪያቸው ልዑል እግዚአብሔርን ከሚያመሰግኑ ቅዱሳን መላእክት አንዱ ነው፡፡ ‹‹ከከበሩ ከሰባቱ አለቆች አንዱ አለቃ እኔ ሩፋኤል ነኝ›› እንዲል (ጦቢት ፲፪፥፲፭)፡፡

የሰው ልጆች ከተያዙበት የኀጢአት ቍስል ይፈወሱ ዘንድ በአማላጅነቱና በጸሎቱ የማይለይ መልአክ ነው፡፡ ‹‹በበሽታ ዅሉ ላይ በሰው ልጆችም ቍስል ላይ የተሾመው ቅዱስ ሩፋኤል ነው›› በማለት ሄኖክ ከእግዚአብሔር መልአክ ያገኘውን የምስክርነት ቃል ጽፏል (ሄኖክ ፲፥፲፫)፡፡ ቅዱስ ሩፋኤል በሰውነታችን ላይ የሚወጣውን ደዌም ኾነ ቍስል ይፈውስ ዘንድ ከልዑል እግዚአብሔር ሥልጣን ተሰጥቶታል፡፡ ‹‹በሰው ቍስል ላይ የተሾመ ከከበሩ መላእክት አንዱ ቅዱስ ሩፋኤል ነው›› እንዳለ ሄኖክ (ሄኖክ ፮፥፫)፡፡ ለቈሰሉ ፈውስን የሚያሰጣቸው፤ ላረገዙ ሴቶች ረዳታቸው ቅዱስ ሩፋኤል ነው፡፡ ሴት በፀነሰችበት ወቅት ቅዱስ ሩፋኤል አይለያትም፡፡ ሕፃኑ (ኗ በማኅፀን እያለ (ች) ተሥዕሎተ መልክዕ (በሥላሴ አርአያ መልኩ /ኳ/ መሳል) ከጀመረበት ቀን አንሥቶ እስከሚወለድበት ቀን ድረስ ቅዱስ ሩፋኤል በጥበቃው አይለያቸውም፡፡ በመውለጃቸው ቀን ሴቶች ከሚደርስባቸው ጭንቀትና ሕመም ስሙን ጠርተው ይማጸኑታል፡፡ ፈታሔ ማኅፀን ነውና ቅዱስ ሩፋኤልም ጭንቀታቸውን ያቀልላቸዋል፡፡

አስማንድዮስ የተባለ ጋኔን በወለተ ራጉኤል ላይ አድሮ ባሎቿን እየገደለ ቢያሰቃያት ቅዱስ ሩፋኤል ጋኔኑን አስጨንቆ አስወጥቶላታል (ጦቢት ፫፥፰-፲፯)፡፡ ቅዱስ ሩፋኤል ‹‹ዳግመኛም እግዚአብሔር ሩፋኤልን፣ አዛዝኤልን እጁን እግሩን አስረህ በጨለማ ውስጥ ጣለው አለው›› ተብሎ እንደ ተጻፈ (ሄኖክ ፫፥፭-፯)፡፡ ለቃየን ልጆች ሰይፍና ሾተል መሥራትን፣ የምንዝር ጌጥ ማጌጥን፣ መቀንደብን ያስተማረ አዛዝኤል የተባለውን ጋኔን በእሳት ሰይፍ እየቀጣ በረቂቅ አስሮ ወደ ጥልቁ የጣለው ይኸው መልአክ ቅዱስ ሩፋኤል ነው (ሄኖክ ፪፥፲፰)፡፡ የጦቢትን ልጁ ጦቢያን በሰው አምሳል ተገልጦ ከተራዳው በኋላ ወደ ሰማይ በሚያርግበት ጊዜ ራሱን ሲገልጥ ‹‹የቅዱሳንን ጸሎት ከሚያሳርጉ ወደ ከበረ ወደ ገነነ ወደ እግዚአብሔር ጌትነትም ከሚያገቡ ከከበሩ ከሰባቱ አለቆች አንዱ አለቃ እኔ ሩፋኤል ነኝ አላቸው›› (ጦቢት ፲፪፥፲፭)፡፡

በቅዱስ ሩፋኤል ተራዳዒነት ከተደረጉ ተአምራት መካከል በእስክንድርያ አቅራቢያ በምትገኝ ደሴት በታነጸች ቤተ ክርስቲያኑ ያደረገው ተአምር አንደኛው ነው፡፡ በመጽሐፈ ስንክሳር እና በድርሳነ ሩፋኤል እንደ ተጻፈው ብዙ ምእመናን በቤተ ክርስቲያን ውስጥ እያሉ ቤተ ክርስቲያኒቱ ፈጽማ ተናወጠች፤ ያቺ ደሴት በታላቅ አንበሪ ጀርባ ላይ የቆመች ናትና፡፡ የሰዎች ብዛትም በከበደው ጊዜ ዓሣ አንበሪው ቤተ ክርስቲያኒቱን ያፈርሳት ዘንድ ሰይጣን አነሣሣው፡፡ ምእመናኑም ወደ ክብር ባለቤት እግዚአብሔር በከበረ መልአክ ሩፋኤል ስም ጮኹ፡፡ ያን ጊዜ ቅዱስ ሩፋኤል ያንን አንበሪ በጦሩ ወግቶ ‹‹እግዚአብሔር አዝዞሃልና ከቦታህ ሳትናወጥ ጸጥ ብለህ ቁም!›› ባለው ጊዜ አንበሪው ጸጥ ብሎ ቆሟል፡፡ በውስጧም ድንቆች ተአምራቶች ተገልጠዋል፡፡ ለሕሙማንም ፈውስ ኾኗል፡፡ የቅዱስ ሩፋኤል ተራዳዒነት አይለየን፡
